Power BI July Update – Refresh for on-prem

2015-07-09 08_11_38-Home _ Power BIYesterday was a really good day for everyone doing Power BI – as the July update revealed some very exciting news. Among these the long awaited feature, that enables you to refresh data from your On-Prem datasource to Power-BI. This is done by the Power BI Personal Gateway, which allows you to setup connections to your on-prem sources, which Power BI then can consume.

As to what datasources supported, here is a list of the most common datasources.

All common data sources are supported:

  • SQL Server
  • Oracle
  • Teradata
  • IBM DB2
  • PostgreSQL
  • Sybase
  • MySQL
  • SharePoint List (on-premises)
  • File (CSV, XML, Text, Excel, Access)
  • On-premises SQL Server Analysis Services models (uploaded data; not live connections)
  • Folder
  • Custom SQL/native SQL

I am looking forward to do some testing on the feature, and will be doing so in a later post.

You can read a lot more on this at the POWER BI Blog where there is an walk through of the setup as well.
